Controversial Queensland State school phone policy

Produced by Alexandra Turner

Mobile phones and smart devices will be banned from all Queensland state schools at the start of the school year 2024.

Queensland’s Minister of Education Grace Grace says all State schools will follow an away-for-the-day smart device policy and students will be barred from having phones and other smart devices on their person for the whole day, including lunch breaks and free periods.

Some education professionals are ready to welcome the ban, whilst some experts believe were taking a step in the wrong direction.
