From the 1st-3rd of September, the Spiritist Film Festival will screen a selection of films based on teachings that combine philosophy, science and morality.
The free event is being hosted by Event Cinemas Australia Fair and Southport Community Centre.
Event organiser Katie Furge said everyone is welcome to attend the event, which is an initiative of Arising Sun.
“Spiritism respects all religion and philosophies and values all efforts towards the practice of good deeds,” Ms Furge said.
Spiritism is described as a science, philosophy and religion all in one, which has a strong following globally, especially in Brazil.

The event includes the exhibition of seven films, five seminars with well renowned speakers from the Spiritist Community, a book fair, autograph sessions and music performances.
“The aim of the event is to promote the message of the Spiritist’s philosophy in Australia,” Miss Furge said.
Organisers are also hoping to shed some light on a subject that’s often kept behind closed doors.
“The event also actively supports the Prevention of Suicide among young people,” Miss Furge said.
“We are very excited about how many people can benefit from attending the event and we are keen to connect with everyone within our community who is taking a stand against suicide.”
Event volunteer Silvio Ricao said presentations discuss topics that are fundamental to our understanding of life on this earth and will help attendees realise the importance of practising gratitude.
“Through these films, we will be invited to discover our spirtuality, our inner power and we have to reflect on what we are most grateful for,” Mr Ricao said.
Apart from learning about Spiritism, anyone attending the festival is encouraged to reflect on its theme ‘The Gift of Life’ in preparation for World Suicide Prevention Day this month.
