On a cloudy afternoon at Moora Park in Shorncliffe, north of Brisbane, the Vanuatu community came together to celebrate the nation’s 44th Independence anniversary.

For students living far from home, the event was more than just a gathering, it was a powerful reminder of culture, connection, and unity.

With speeches, music, food, and kava, the celebration captured the spirit of “Tugeta Yumi Stanap” (Together We Stand), this year’s Independence theme, and highlighted the importance of community for Ni-Vanuatu abroad.
