The Australian men’s 4x100m relay team qualified third fastest for the final at Rio this morning.
The Aussies will start from lane three, with the Russians and the USA occupying lanes four and five respectively.
The final will be raced at 12.56pm AEST today, with the Aussies odds on favorites to take out the gold medal.
James Roberts, Kyle Chalmers, James Magnussen and Cameron McEvoy make up the four swimmers vying to win gold for Australia, the first time since Sydney in this event.
Despite the favoritism, the Aussies face a mammoth task in attempting to topple the USA who have meddled in the 4x100m free style relay since the Tokyo games in 1964, including eight gold medals across 11 Olympic games.
Defending champions France qualified fourth for the race, while the Russian team qualified second.
The men will hoping to follow in steps of their female compatriots who took out Olympic gold in world record time for the 4x100m freestyle relay on Sunday afternoon.
