Four men are in police custody after 200 armed officers stormed Sydney homes in a pre dawn terrorism raid this morning.
A 16 year old boy and 18 year old man were detained at a Wentworthville address along with two 22 year olds in Marsfield and Merrylands.
It comes as investigations continue into the brutal murder of Curtis Cheng by teen gunman Farhad Jabar outside Parramatta police headquarters on Friday.
Addressing media, Deputy Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said Jabar had not been on the radar and today’s arrests were a clear indication of the determination to find out who murdered Chend.
“The reasons we have detained them and conducted searches is because we suspect a terrorism offence has occurred,” she said.
“It’s a very, very serious concern that in the heart of our community there is attack planning that is underway that may have led to what we saw on Friday,” she said.
It’s not the first time counter terrorism officers have raided these homes after being targeted in relation to tip offs that a random member of the public would be beheaded.
Despite these arrests Ms Burns encouraged the public to remain patient amidst a ‘extremely serious investigation’.
“I call for calm as well as vigilance from every single member of society,” she said.
“We all stand side by side in condemning the actions on Friday.”
