New Tourism Minister, Richard Colbeck says he wants Australians to embrace controversial online services ‘Airbnb’ and ‘Uber’, to aid in enhancing the Gold Coast’s economy.
The popular online services could play a big role in enhancing the Gold Coast, as it looks to profit from the ever increasing number of tourists to the region.
MP Richard Colbeck has announced his first order of business is to boost the Gold Coast economy, by urging Australians to embrace the controversial online services.
Airbnb is a multi-billion dollar company, allowing people to list their property for rent or to book accomodation.
Uber’s ride-sharing app operates by passengers directly booking a ride, and the driver uses their own car to transport customers. However this service still remains unregulated in Queensland.
State general manager for Uber, Mike Abbott, issued a statement saying he welcomes the Minister’s comments and vision to open up opportunities for the Gold Coast and grow the city’s tourism.
