THE first week of spring kicked off with a splash for the Ipswich community with the grand opening of the new world class Orion Lagoon.
The Orion Lagoon officially opened in Springfield Central, Ipswich on Saturday the 5th of September and catered to thousands of people.
The gates opened at noon and locals were also treated to markets, kid’s rides, roaming entertainment, fireworks and over 80 food and craft stalls.
An Ipswich City council spokesperson said that the council listened to the public and have created a very successful destination for the community.
“Orion Lagoon is a huge achievement for the city and is expected to bring 100,000 visitors to Ipswich each year,” An Ipswich City council spokesperson said.
“With the inclusion of a kiosk, barbecue facilities, enhanced lighting, outdoor furniture and it being located in the beautiful Robelle Domain alongside Orion Springfield Centre shopping centre, this isn’t just a lagoon, it’s a fully equipped recreation destination.”
Springfield is Australia’s fastest-emerging new city and is the only completely master planned city to be built, other than Canberra.
Springfield resident Lauren Wraight says that the Orion Lagoon is a great addition to the community and provides a safe place for her children.
“As mother of two very young active young kids, it’s great to have a brand new lagoon that is so close to home and a fun and safe place for my kids to play.” Lauren said.
The Orion Lagoon is open to the public daily from 9am to 5pm.
