Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) Party claim Marijuana legalisation could put and end to Australia’s ice boom.

President of the HEMP party Michael Balderstone this week claimed the legalisation of marijuana could help put an end to Australia’s ice troubles.

“What we’d like to see is cannabis, which is different to all the other drugs, be separated from that black market,” Mr Balderstone said.

“You ban it, they’ll trade it. I’ve got no doubt the two [ice and marijuana] are interlinked because they’re in the black market.”

“So lets get cannabis out of there.”

Federal MP Graham Perrett said that while the Labor party do not support the full legalisation of marijuana, they do support medicinal marijuana trials.

“We do support states that are holding clinical trials for the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes, but then obviously it is treated the same as any other drug in terms of its benefits and risks before it gets approved by the TGA,” Mr Perrett said.

Federal MP Teresa Gambaro was contacted but was unavailable for comment.
