West Papua activist Ronny Kareni said the people of West Papua must confront the Indonesian president, Joko Widowo over human rights violations, illegal foreign trade practices and aggressive military action taken against peaceful West Papua freedom demonstrators.

Mr Kareni has been representing the Free West Papua movement at the G20 summit and First Nations forums.

According to Kareni, the Indonesian occupation of West Papua, which has been in an effect for over 50 years, has been brutal towards the indigenous people of West Papua, resulting in poverty and a lack of democratic freedom.
