With the 2014 Brisbane G20 on its way community groups have expressed concerns about the safety of the Brisbane City homeless population.

Micah Projects coordinator Karyn Walsh said there was some discomfort in the homeless community about the large police presence due to ongoing demonstrations.
“Obviously there’s going to be a lot more police in the city than normal and it’s causing some disturbance among the community with criminal records,” she said.
“[With] the police and having to acknowledge using the same space with potentially violent protesters, there is definitely a danger out there for them these next few weeks.”
Micah Projects is aiming to raise between $5000-$10 000 to provide alternative accommodation for Brisbane’s homeless during the summit.
