Brisbane City Council has confirmed a three-year funding commitment to the Brisbane Pride Festival after local support for the event prevailed in an online petition.

In a letter sent to those who signed the petition, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk confirmed a $21,000 grant will be rolled out over the next three years.

“I am pleased to advise that Civic Cabinet has approved a three year funding agreement for the Brisbane Pride Festival valued at $21,000,” he wrote.

Councillor Quirk said the pledge follows on from promises incorporated in the Lord Mayor’s Suburban Initiative Fund released in the last financial year.

“I am pleased to lead the first Council administration to provide long-term funding certainty to the Brisbane Pride Festival,” he said.

“This funding continues my commitment to an inclusive Brisbane and follows on from the support for the festival that I provided through the Lord Mayor’s Suburban Initiative Fund.”
