The Sydney Morning Herald has attained a copy of a possible policy by the Federal Government to implement a boot camp for young people to qualify for the dole.

The proposal, called The Youth Start Boot Camp, would be aimed at school leavers between the ages of 15 and 21.

If announced, the boot camp policy could act as a vote grabber for the ALP as they attempt to retain government in this year’s election.

The government would not comment on the details of the proposal as it is under review by the governments expenditure review committee.

But according to reports, $70 million would be taken from programs provided by Job Services Australia and redistributed for the scheme.

The proposal would be similar to a proposal Queensland Government outlined last year for boot camps that were aimed at reducing crime in the community.
