The Kingston family who found a baby boy in a basket on their doorstep over the weekend have decided to adopt the child.
Raymond and Lafo Misa, a prominent Samoan family in Logan, are seeking avenues to become legal guardians of the baby they’re now calling ‘Moses’ after the biblical prophet who was also found in a basket.
A note written in a native Samoan language was left in the basket by the baby’s birth mother pleading the Misa family raise the baby.
Reverend Hohaia Matthews of the Logan Central Uniting Church said the Samoan community has rallied around the child and the family.
“They’re a very loving, Christian family and we just simply want to support them,” he said.
The mother has been found and police have concluded their investigation and will be not pursuing negligence charges or releasing further information about the case.
Police will not confirm if the mother has been reunited with her baby.
